Christopher Herrera

Puentes-CSH Chair

Chris is a 4th year MD/MSHP student planning to pursue a career in urology. Originally from Miami, Florida, he graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with University Honors with a BS in Civil Engineering and a Business for Engineers minor. From there, he attended Goucher Post Bac for his premedical studies. In medical school, he has enjoyed being a board member of the Latino Medical Student Association and volunteered at Puentes de Salud and UCHC clinics. Furthermore, Chris was awarded the Agnew Summer Fellowship in Global Surgery after his first year of medical school where he worked along with a fellow classmate and under the guidance of Dr. Jordan Swanson to develop and conduct a pilot study in Honduras for “El Manual Para El Pueblo” – A pictorial aid for community health workers to identify and refer surgical and medical conditions.

This upcoming year out, I am pursuing training in health services research as a David A. Asch Medical Student Scholar in the Master’s in Health Policy Research program with a primary focus on Latino health disparities in surgical care. I am extremely excited to be the Puentes-CSH chair combine my research interests and community health interests and work to provide access to surgical care for the Latino population in Philadelphia! In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball, boating, and watching movies. Feel free to reach out if there is any interest in the MSHP or in Urology.
