Elizabeth (Lizz) Card is a 4th year medical student applying into Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Originally from Minnesota, she first moved to the East Coast to attend Tufts University where she studied Biology and Chinese. Lizz graduated summa cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors and moved to Laos for a year to teach English at the National University of Laos as a Fulbright Scholar. While at Penn she has explored her interests in global surgery with the Penn Global Surgery Group and through research with an orthopaedics department in Tanzania and a pediatric surgical mission in Guatemala. She is an artist and is taking an extra year to learn medical illustration with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Stream Studios. She is leading multiple projects on the impact of illustration on patient and medical staff education, and designing courses for the new medical humanities curriculum. Lizz volunteers with the University City Healthcare Coalition and as Outreach Coordinator for the Center for Surgical Health she is responsible for expansion of the program and patient recruitment.
