CSH Summer Institute

The Summer Institute is a five-week, problem-based interdisciplinary program where a handful of carefully selected students from programs across the University of Pennsylvania are chosen to develop a solution to a surgical health care problem impacting marginalized communities.

The summer program is interdisciplinary at its core. The experience will kick off with an in-depth weekend of didactic instruction from leaders within and outside of the University. In the weeks that follow, team members will collaborate two evenings a week with the guidance of  assigned faculty mentors. The experience will culminate with a presentation to a local or state stakeholder with the goal of implementing real policy and practice changes that directly impact communities.

The summer program is structured so that participation will not conflict with other summer opportunities. Consider this an additional, unique project to build cross-campus relationships and gain leadership experience. The program will run from late June to the end of July, 2021.
